OUR STORY
Our names are Julia A. Kim and Leeya Kekona. We are two Punahou Academy students with a lifelong love for service. As members of Punahou School's Luke Leadership and Design Team, we were tasked with thinking big, and then running with our ideas to create fathomable changes in the community. We came up with the idea of creating a single online source through which students can access compiled information about organizations, service opportunities, and the Luke Center itself. We believe that by serving as an intermediate between service organizations and students, we can make getting involved in the community easier than ever.To help upkeep the blog, we recruited a small team of fellow Punahou Academy students just as committed to service as we are. Our team members go out into the community to participate in service events, help write posts for the blog, and perform various tasks required to upkeep the website. Collectively, we call ourselves the "Pay It Forward Team" or simply "PIFT" for short.
We hope to engender our same passion for service in the lives of our peers and members of the larger community. Getting involved in service is enjoyable and meaningful. Our mission is to show why.
WHAT IS THE LUKE LEADERSHIP & DESIGN TEAM?
Part of our Principal's, Dr. Jim Scott's, original vision was for the Luke Center to be completely student led and operated. As the Luke Center reached its milestone 12th year of opened doors and the school's 175th anniversary, Punahou decided to pilot an all new group of 15 committed Academy students to see how Dr. Jim's Scott's original vision could become a reality. We are the Luke Leadership and Design Team. The team hoped to re-envision the Luke Center, approaching new and old problems through different facets. During the 2015-2016 school year, the team branched off into several different focus groups such as website and social media (that's us!), Luke Center awareness, a special monthly event known as Salad Socials, pop-up booths on campus, and the open space project. We hope to develop our projects into something that will impact the school, and hopefully, the greater community.
THE LUKE AUNTIES
Carri Morgan || Terry Yamamoto-Edwards || Chandra Peters
Director Carri Morgan, Assistant Director Terry Yamamoto-Edwards, and Administrative Coordinator Chandra Peters are lovingly known around campus as the "Luke Aunties." These three women oversee our activities and are truly the heart and soul, the core, of the Luke Center.
When you walk into the Center, the Aunties are always there to greet you with a smile. They are your supporters, your mentors, and your friends. If you have an individual project, or simply want to get involved in service, stop by the Luke Center and chat with them!
